Canistherapy is a special type of treatment, in which etiology (behaviour) and physiology (characteristics, shape, size, temperature, motion ...) of the dog are effectively used. This ever developing method is still rather being applied to and associated with the field of physiotherapy, for example with the known method of "positioning" or further rehabilitation procedures in diagnoses including involvements of the nervous and locomotor apparatus. In my contribution, I present classification of canistherapy into particular fields, as recognized and performed in practice in the Association "Piafa" in Vyškov. I also point out the importance of canistherapy in the field of sociotherapy, mainly in the education of children and youth in schools and further facilities dealing with upbringing or education.
