The use of the standardized nursing terminology is a basic feature of nursing professions in the 21st century. The development of this language in nursing and its use itself characterize a new era of nursing science. The description of the work of nurses also means visualization of areas which were formerly "invisible" in nursing, as e.g. formation of a database, which can be used for monitoring and evaluating the nursing care efficacy. The target of the whole project was to provide mapping of the topical condition of the nursing documentation in hospitals of the South-Bohemian Region, to find whether classification systems NIC (Nursing Interventions Classification) and NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification) are used in the documentation, to verify the implementation of the conceptual model in the nursing documentation, and to check whether the nursing documentation respects elements of multicultural nursing. The present contribution considers problems of nursing classification systems in view of nurses working in hospitals of the South-Bohemian Region. Within the framework of the research, the problems were considered concerning the experience of nurses with nursing classification systems, the evaluation of these systems by the nurses and the level of their information about these systems. For the data accumulation, a non-standardized questionnaire was used, which comprised 59 questions and included the following fields of interests: nursing classification systems, nursing conceptual models, nursing documentation, and multicultural nursing within the framework of the documentation. The total number of all the questionnaires issued was of 750. Five hundred and sixty-five questionnaires were then used for the data analysis, which means that 75% of questionnaires were returned. The research sample included nurses from seven hospitals of the South-Bohemian Region. The total number of respondents was of 565. Based on the data acquired it was found that nurses encounter the standardized nursing language in their everyday practice, but they rather tend to negative standpoints in terms of its use. Information about problems of the standardized language also cannot be considered as sufficient. Thus, the nurses should be acquainted with these systems and their introduction into practice should be implemented to the full extent.
