Introduction: Quality of life in hemodialysis patients is influenced by psychosocial and behavioural factors. This study examined the association between psychosocial and behavioural factors and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Methods: A cross-sectional design was adopted, with the sample consisting of 106 respondents undergoing hemodialysis twice weekly for ≥3 months. Consecutive sampling was used. Data were collected using validated questionnaires on self-management, mental health, adherence, functional dependence, and quality of life. Data were analysed using Chi-square and logistic regression analysis for multivariate testing with a significance level of p < 0.05.
Results: Mental health was significantly associated with patients' quality of life (p = 0.001; OR = 3.583; 95% CI: 1.671-7.524). Self-management, adherence, and functional dependence were not associated with quality of life.
Conclusion: Mental health is associated with quality of life in hemodialysis patients. These results underscore the importance of addressing the psychological aspects, as well as the need to strengthen psychosocial support and emotion-based interventions in nursing practice to improve patients' well-being.
