Alternative proprioreceptive-neuromuscular facilitation methods, such as canistherapy, are being currently ever more used for the treatment of spasticity. Canistherapy is carried out not only by specialized healthcare professionals, but also by volunteers, who do not always have complex knowledge concerning the spasticity mechanism. Therefore, knowledge of pathological-physiological disorder and thus also knowledge of the spastic syndrome mechanism is of a great importance, since the spasticity itself can be affected positively as well as negatively.
