The use of pictograms in providing the nursing care for women within the Vietnamese communityOšetřovatelská péče orientovaná na zdraví minorit a subkultur

The research investigation solves problems of communication between a Vietnamese women and midwives at the labour ward. The main purpose of the research was to establish pictograms and introduce them to practice of midwives, particularly to labour ward, in the form of a booklet. The authors consider the viewpoint of midwives concerning the communication and pictograms before and after introducing the booklet and compare opinions of midwives aimed at special features of the Vietnamese minority. The research was implemented in selected maternity hospitals of the region of Ústí, in Ústí nad Labem, Teplice and Kadaň and in Karlovy Vary at the beginning of 2008. The data accumulation was implemented with the help of questionnaires, which were distributed at an interval of 4 months after introducing the booklet in practice. The research implemented was statistically evaluated and it suggested that the booklet introduced to labour wards brought a benefit to the communication between the midwives and the Vietnamese minority. The booklet compiled will be furthermore used in practice.
