The article is focused on establishing the database system structure at the Institute of Social Work (henceforth the ISW) in association with the system of monitoring the ISW activity and development.
The target of the work is to establish the structure of the database system, which will serve for storing data necessary for the ISW activity and development.
The proposal is based on a previous analysis (including SWOT and analysis of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies, University of South Bohemia) and it corresponds with the "ISW monitoring method" (in print). The database system proposed is related to the organizational structure and functioning of the ISW.
Into the database proposed, data can be entered accumulated based on activities of particular ISW projects to make possible not only monitoring and evaluation of the ISW activity but subsequently also performing the research activity within the framework of ISW research areas. The following aggregation of data will occur at a level of centres, research regions and of the whole ISW based on the ISW organizational level. Establishing the ISW database system is based on interconnection of partial databases with relationships to monitoring indicators. In the proposal of the database system, uniform principles of the database system formation were employed.
The database system is designed in such a way that the data stored in the system are relevant and universally applicable. Due to the fact that particular records in the database are provided with corresponding numerical codes and independently stored, it is possible to use any method for the aggregation and thus, to form user reports and arrangements depending on needs of ISW project teams. The technical solution of the ISW database system was chosen based on the intranet/extranet application due to the fact that the only condition for the intranet/extranet application is the availability of a web explorer, for example Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. The application itself will be formed on the NET platform in the C# programming language. SQL database SQL server 2005/2008 Express is used for data storing.
The established ISW database system will be compatible with the existing IT systems of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies, University of South Bohemia. The ISW database system will be used by all the authorized users without requirements for expert installation and configuration of the software at particular user working stations.
