Canistherapy from the viewpoint of therapistTeorie canisterapie
Svatava Hančlová
Kontakt 2008, 10(Supl 2):9-10
I compiled my contribution named "Canistherapy from the viewpoint of therapist" in the Old people's home May, where I work as an ergotherapist and where outpatient type canistherapy is practised. AAA and AAT methods are employed in the work with clients in our facility. Canistherapy is prevalently indicated for clients with Alzhemimer dementia and clients after cerebrovascular events. Ergotherapy is a part of complex rehabilitation. Canistherapy not only facilitates but particularly supplements the ergotherapist work, since both types of the therapy are directed to common targets. Ergotherapy, similarly as canistherapy, makes possible mutual interactions,...

Kontakt 2008, 10(Supl 2):30-33
Hearing is one of the main senses making it possible to recognize the environment and to provide the orientation in the surroundings, but it also enables one to communicate with the surroundings. It is of importance that hearing defects should be detected as soon as possible. Children, who become suitable candidates, can acquire the cochlear implants after the hearing defect re-education. The cochlear implants are electronic hearing sensory replacements mediating hearing perceptions through the electronic excitation of the hearing nerve. The implantation should be suitably implemented most preferably between 18 months and four years of the child age,...

In the case described, this was an intensive 7-day work with a client in the course of a summer reconditioning camp.

Böhm Pavel
Kontakt 2008, 10(Supl 2):77-80
Alternative proprioreceptive-neuromuscular facilitation methods, such as canistherapy, are being currently ever more used for the treatment of spasticity. Canistherapy is carried out not only by specialized healthcare professionals, but also by volunteers, who do not always have complex knowledge concerning the spasticity mechanism. Therefore, knowledge of pathological-physiological disorder and thus also knowledge of the spastic syndrome mechanism is of a great importance, since the spasticity itself can be affected positively as well as negatively.

Petra Hlavničková, Zuzana Fraňková
Kontakt 2008, 10(Supl 2):81-84
Canistherapy in children with involved hearing is currently being implemented by a restricted number of specialists. It is, however, suitable for most children with involved hearing. The cooperation of the facility is of importance, where the keepers of dogs come to visit the children. The support by parents, who are frequently present in the course of individual visits, is also of importance. Children participating in canistherapy are selected by a special pedagogue, who is appropriately familiarized with these children and who participates in a long-term work with them.

Canistherapy is a special type of treatment, in which etiology (behaviour) and physiology (characteristics, shape, size, temperature, motion ...) of the dog are effectively used. This ever developing method is still rather being applied to and associated with the field of physiotherapy, for example with the known method of "positioning" or further rehabilitation procedures in diagnoses including involvements of the nervous and locomotor apparatus. In my contribution, I present classification of canistherapy into particular fields, as recognized and performed in practice in the Association "Piafa" in Vyškov. I also point out the importance of canistherapy...

Kontakt 2008, 10(Supl 2):113-115
Diseases transmissible from animals to humans are ever in the focus of interest, and the field of zootherapy, they also cannot be kept aside. The problem includes two parts. The first part is the actual danger, which can occur during the contact of man and animal and the second one includes a number of superstitions and ignorance, which are ever being encountered. The zootherapist should possess basic information about actual danger and he/she should also be able to explain the danger to lay public.

Kontakt 2008, 10(Supl 2):116-119
Hipporehabilitation is a currently discussed problem in the treatment of different forms of mobility disorders. It unfortunately imposes considerable requirements concerning not only the expert proficiency of the team and their physical condition but also considerable financial sources. Thus, it is hard to assume its routine implementation in health facilities. In my article I consider the problem of the classification of hipporehabilitation and of its parts with taking into account the viewpoint and experience of our facility (Association "Piafa" in Vyškov).
