The concept of the human dignity is employed in ethical codes and it can also be found in the preamble to the bioethical convention. In spite of this, the delimitation of this concept is not uniform. For better understanding of problems of the human dignity, the article deals with different formulations of the term dignity. Persons are considered as carriers of the dignity, but the author explains this concept in terms of consideration of the philosopher Jan Sokol and founder of speech therapy V. E. Frankl. The treatise also deals with characteristics of persons according to catholic Charter of healthcare professionals. Differences in understanding...

The volunteer (unpaid) work and opportunity to perform it in the society is considered as an unavoidable assumption and also standard of democracy. In the Czech Republic, the number of social workers (henceforth public custodians) taking care of adult persons (aged 18 years and older) having no or restricted legal capacity is being increased (Juríčková et al., 2011, p. 280). The adult persons having no or restricted legal capacity (henceforth persons in custody) are exposed to a larger degree of negligent care or undignified treatment, which makes them a risk group (Ivanová et al., 2009, p. 6). In this contribution, results of qualitative research examination are presented, where the target was to find and analyze topical problems in the performance of the function of public custodians. The purpose...

Kontakt 2012, 14(1):59-67 | DOI: 10.32725/kont.2012.008
The authors deal with the inter-generation solidarity under conditions of taking care of seniors who are not self-sufficient. They were particularly focused on studying one aspect of the family solidarity concept: solidarity of agreement. They tried to combine conflict and consensual attitudes to this problem and thus to characterize the nature of conflicts and harmony in families taking care of seniors. The target of the study was mapping of relationships between the life harmony and manifested conflicts between persons providing and accepting the care and finding differences in this field between families taking care of seniors under different conditions.After...

Anxious disorders belong to most frequently encountered mental disorders in general, since up to 25% of the population suffers by a clinically important anxious disorder at least once in a lifetime. Anxiolytics and antidepressants are particularly used to treat anxiety. and insomnia is treated with sedatives and hypnotics. There are a number of products for the treatment of the anxiety, but in benzodiazepine-group anxiolytics, there is a risk of the tolerance and addiction development. Thus, a great attention is being paid to the investigation of new medicines without these side effects. There are a number of plants, which have been traditionally used...

Kontakt 2012, 14(1):85-93 | DOI: 10.32725/kont.2012.010
Aflatoxins are secondary metabolites of toxinogenic fibrous microscopic fungi (moulds) of the genus Aspergillus, particularly of the species Aspergillus flavus (producer of aflatoxin B1/ (henceforth AFB1/ and AFB2) and Aspergillus parasiticus (producer of AFB1, AFB2, AFG1 and AFG2), which occur in foodstuffs and forages. Aflatoxins are obviously most known and most thoroughly examined mycotoxins worldwide. In terms of their chemical nature, they are polycyclic, unsaturated, high-substituted coumarins. About 20 aflatoxins have been still identified, among which only AFB1, AFB2, AFG1 and AFG2 occur in nature. AFB1 occurs most frequently and is most important...
